Being that Monte Verde is covered in clouds for most of the year, allows for mosses, liverrots, lichens, and epiphytes to grow profusely on the trees. Within the lush of Monte Verde over 100 species of mammals have been identified, including 40 bats. There has been 700 species of birds, including the green kin fisher, the solitery eagle, and 30 species of hummingbirds, 153 species of amphibians and reptiles, including the glass frog, central america coral snake and the highly poisenous golden toad, which is now to be extinct.
